🌱 DISCIPLINE & BEHAVIOR POLICY

Roberts Park

Age Group: Grades 1–8

Spring Break Adventure Camp is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and positive environment for all campers and staff. Our discipline approach focuses on clear expectations, consistency, redirection, and accountability, while remaining developmentally appropriate for all age groups.

1

BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS

All campers are expected to:

Follow staff directions the first time they are given

Keep hands, feet, and objects to themselves

Use respectful language toward peers and adults

Participate safely in activities

Respect camp spaces, equipment, and materials

Expectations are reviewed daily and reinforced throughout the program.

2

POSITIVE DISCIPLINE APPROACH

Spring Break Adventure Camp uses a progressive discipline model that prioritizes:

Clear Expectations

Campers know exactly what is expected of them at all times

Calm Redirection

Staff guide campers back on track with patience and clarity

Teaching Appropriate Choices

We help campers learn better decision-making skills

Maintaining Safety

Safety for all campers is always our top priority

Discipline is never punitive or shaming. Our goal is to help campers self-correct and remain successfully engaged in the program.

3

DISCIPLINE STEPS (FINAL ORDER)

Discipline will follow the steps below. Steps may progress more quickly depending on the severity of behavior.

Step 1: Redirection

  • Calm reminder of expectations
  • Staff redirects camper to appropriate behavior or activity

Step 2: Warning

  • Clear verbal warning is given
  • Camper is informed of the next consequence if behavior continues

Step 3: Cool-Down / Reset

  • Camper is temporarily removed from the activity
  • Supervised calm reset (seated break, reflection, quiet task)
  • Camper rejoins the group once ready

Step 4: Documentation & Parent Contact

  • Incident is documented by staff
  • Parent/guardian may be contacted at the same time, depending on the situation
  • A plan may be discussed to support camper success

(Steps 4 and parent contact may occur simultaneously.)

4

SERIOUS BEHAVIOR (ZERO TOLERANCE)

The following behaviors may result in immediate parent contact, removal from activities, or dismissal from camp

Physical Aggression

Hitting, kicking, fighting

Threats Toward Others

Any verbal or physical threats to campers or staff

Bullying, Harassment, or Intimidation

Physical, verbal, or digital bullying (including through phones or social media)

Destruction of Property

Intentional damage to camp property or others' belongings

Leaving Supervised Areas

Leaving without permission or wandering away from the group

Repeated Refusal to Follow Staff Directions

Persistent defiance or non-compliance

Immediate Action May Be Required

If a camper's behavior compromises safety, parents/guardians may be required to pick up the camper immediately.

6

PARENT COMMUNICATION

Parents/guardians will be notified when:

Behavior is ongoing or disruptive

A camper is removed from an activity

A serious or safety-related incident occurs

Our goal is to work in partnership with families to support camper success.

7

DISMISSAL FROM CAMP

Spring Break Adventure Camp reserves the right to dismiss a camper without refund if:

Behavior repeatedly disrupts the program

Safety of campers or staff is at risk

Discipline steps do not result in improvement

Dismissal decisions are made carefully and only when necessary.
